Community Outreach Coordinator

Background

Grenada Land Actors Inc. (GLA) is seeking a dynamic and passionate Community Outreach Coordinator to join our team in a groundbreaking project aimed at strengthening environmental governance in Grenada. This initiative, funded by the Fund for International and Multilateral Advocacy (FIMA), focuses on enhancing public understanding of environmental rights and promoting active citizen participation in environmental decision-making processes.

As the Community Outreach Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between our project team and local communities across Grenada. Your work will be instrumental in raising awareness about environmental issues, building a network of community environmental monitors, and fostering grassroots engagement in environmental protection efforts.

This position offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on Grenada's sustainable development and to set a precedent for community-driven environmental governance in the Caribbean region. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about community development, environmental protection, and has a deep understanding of Grenadian culture and local contexts.

Responsibilities

  1. Organize and facilitate community engagement activities, including town halls and workshops across Grenada.

  2. Lead the establishment and coordination of a network of community environmental monitors.

  3. Develop and implement training programs for community members on using the Environmental Action Toolkit.

  4. Serve as a liaison between the project team and local communities, ensuring effective two-way communication.

  5. Identify and engage with key community stakeholders and local organizations to build partnerships and support for the project.

  6. Assist in the dissemination of educational materials and information about environmental rights and citizen participation at the community level.

  7. Gather feedback from communities on environmental concerns and the effectiveness of project activities.

  8. Contribute to the development of community engagement strategies and adapt approaches based on local needs and contexts.

  9. Support the Communications Officer in implementing the public awareness campaign at the grassroots level.

  10. Prepare reports on community engagement activities, including outcomes and lessons learned.

Key Collaborations

This role is part of a collaborative team working towards strengthening environmental governance in Grenada. Effective communication and coordination are central to our project's success.

Working with the Communications Manager:

  1. Contribute to and align with the overall communication strategy guided by the Communications Manager.

  2. Collaborate on developing project materials, ensuring they meet our organization's communication standards.

  3. Participate in regular team meetings to synchronize efforts and share insights.

  4. Seek input and guidance on communication-related aspects of your work to maintain consistency across the project.

Working with the Project Coordinator:

  1. Coordinate closely to ensure community engagement activities align with project goals and timelines.

  2. Share insights and feedback to inform project strategies and community outreach efforts.

  3. Collaborate on addressing challenges and opportunities in project implementation and community engagement.

  4. Work together to integrate community perspectives into project planning and execution.

This collaborative approach ensures that our project management, community engagement, and communication efforts are well-coordinated and effective. By working closely as a team, we can maximize our impact in promoting environmental stewardship and community participation in Grenada.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's/Associate degree in Community Development, Environmental Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field OR a minimum of 3/5 years of experience in community outreach or engagement, preferably in environmental or development projects.

  • Strong facilitation and public speaking skills.

  • Experience in organizing and conducting workshops and community events.

  • Knowledge of environmental issues and governance in Grenada or the Caribbean region.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse communities.

  • Experience in participatory approaches and community-based monitoring.

  • Proficiency in developing and delivering training programs.

  • Strong cultural awareness and sensitivity.

  • Fluency in English; proficiency in local dialects is highly desirable.

Duration

12 months, part-time.
